Description

Job Summary: PRN Staff Pharmacists monitor patient drug therapies, fill order for parenteral and enteral medications and provide drug information. PRN Staff pharmacists supervise and direct support personnel. In the absence of the Supervisor/Director of Pharmacy, PRN staff pharmacists may be required to assume the essential responsibility and perform the duties of the Supervisor/Director of Pharmacy.

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Prepares and dispenses medications per physician order according to established policies, procedures, and protocols.
  2. Reviews technician work for accuracy & completeness prior to dispensing.
  3. Delegates tasks to technicians in a fair, unbiased manner.
  4. Completes any technician duties as needed.
  5. Provides staff/workflow feedback to supervisor and director.
  6. Cross-trained to complete all essential functions of and provide back-up pharmacist coverage for the following areas:
    1. Cancer Center
    2. Community Hospital of Staunton
  7. Expected Schedule:
    1. Minimum of 1 shift per payperiod at one of the following areas:
      1. Anderson Hospital Pharmacy
      2. Anderson/Mercy Cancer Center
      3. Community Hospital of Staunton
    2. Expected to cover all shifts based on availability:
      1. Days
      2. Evenings
      3. Overnights
      4. Weekends
      5. Holidays
  8. Assists supervisor & director in ensuring adequate stock levels.
  9. Ensures safe, appropriate medication therapies for patients according to established policies, procedures and protocols.
  10. Provides accurate medication information to professional staff, patients, and families in a timely manner.
  11. Actively assimilates patient safety philosophy into daily activities.
  12. Acts to minimize risk to the patient, hospital, fellow employees and self.
  13. Performs essential duties of the pharmacy supervisor and director in their absence.
  14. Provides age-appropriate and population specific patient care in a safe, skillful, accurate and efficient manner to newborns, pediatrics, adults, and geriatric patients.
  15. Maintains a satisfactory attendance record with consistent punctuality.
  16. Supports patient’s rights and responsibilities, including respect of cultural and religious diversity.
  17. Ensures accuracy of patient billing information.
  18. Completes any additional tasks as assigned by supervisor or director.

Qualifications

Education Requirements and Other Requirements:

 

Education Level: Bachelor of Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy degree required.

 

Certification/Licensure: Current license in the state of Illinois

 

Experience Requirements: 1 year of hospital experience preferred.

 

Working Conditions: Exposure Category II

Tasks that involve no exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues, but employment may require performing unplanned Category I tasks. The normal work routine involves no exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues but exposure or potential exposure may be required as a condition of employment. Appropriate protective measures are readily available to every employee engaged in Category II tasks.
